in use by pickets guarding the motor boat. I also learned that one of the police revolvers had been sent to Canton,

and could not be returned till later.

I have omitted to mention that upon our arrival

we handed over Mr. Wolfe's despatch. As the negotiations in the temple had been prolonged beyond the time limit (4 m.) it was considered advisable that one of us should return to Lowu and report to Major Drake, and this duty wee undertaken by Mr. Williams.

By this time all the crew had been released and were present.. After Mr. Williums hau left an aeroplane flew overhead and this greatly incensed the strikers who declaimed against the invasion of their territory.

The notorious Wong Chun Wa was present and insisted on shaking hands with mo. He was very insistent in his efforts to ingratiate himself and endeavoured to explain in very bad English why he shot at Detective 0220 at Sha Tau Koh. I was una1le to understand him.

It was now 17.00 hours and no sign of the came arriving, so I suggested we should proceed, taking with us the Thompson Gun, the Verer Pistol and certain

armunition, the balence of the arme and ammunition to

be sent on after us to Lowu. To this the strikers

agreed, but changed their minds as we were about to

depart, saying that it was better for us to proceud

without any arms which they preferred to hand over in one

lot. So on these conditions we started off. We had one

some distance when a tan came running after us shouting

that the arms had arrived and to return and take delivery. To this we demurred and told the man we would wait till he brought the arms. After waiting some time an no sign of the arms we continued on to Lowu, where I saw and reported to

the Hon, Captain Superintendent of Police.
